Jack Broderick lives in Northeastern Connecticut. This part of the state is referred to as the Quiet Corner and for him,
the land and the people, have had a long and enduring appeal. Whether in the studio or outdoors,
Jack uses both image and feeling in developing his paintings.
In addition to Connecticut, two other places have had a great influence on Jack's painting, Ireland and Argentina. Jack has traveled to Ireland
and stayed on a family farm in County Limerick. From there he was able to travel and paint throughout Mayo, Galway and Clare. More recently he
lived in Argentina for about a year and a half. Taking advantage of the opportunity he painted numerous cityscapes and spent many hours in the
plazas and cafeterias studying and drawing the people of Buenos Aires. He traveled and painted extensively while in Argentina and had the
opportunity to meet and study with numerous artists in Argentina. Through these contacts, he was invited to have a one man show in the
Museo de la Pintura Jose Antonio Terry in Tilcara, Province of Jujuy, in September 2001.
As a member of numerous art organizations, Jack frequently is asked to give demonstrations. He has been an instructor with the Connecticut
Impressions Workshops, an organization dedicated to plein air instruction. Jack has twice been selected as one of the
"working artists" at the Mid-Summer Festival at the Florence Griswold Museum. The past three summers he has been chosen as an invited artists
to participate in the Copley Society of Boston's Fresh Paint auction. He is currently an instructor of drawing and painting at the Mystic Art
Association.
Jack is a member of the Copley Society of Boston, the nation's oldest artist association. In January, 2000 he received the Copley's most
prestigious recognition, the Robb Sagendorph Award, in their open, juried Winter Show. Twice he was Artist-in-Residence at the Florence
Griswold Museum and painted in William Chadwick's studio. His work continues to be recognized and honored in the numerous juried shows
which he enters.
Jack studied for three years at the Lyme Academy of Fine Arts. He is a graduate of Marist College, the University of Notre Dame and the
University of Connecticut.
