Vera Rahn grew up in an artistic family in The Hague, Holland. Her grandparents both painted. Her grandfather, Floris Arntzenius (1864-1925) was a well known painter of the Hague School. Her mother was a recognized portrait painter. With her background and her own talent, she was always at the top of her class for drawing and art. Her life took her to Tokyo where she attended sumi painting classes and, while in London, she took portrait painting classes at the London Academy of Art.
In 1993 she went to Nova Scotia to study landscape painting, and subsequently at Silvermine School of Art in New Canaan and Rowayton Arts Center. As a member of the Rowayton Arts Center, she has since won 18 prizes and numerous honorable mentions.
